We got published!!

We’re very excited… Last week we were asked if we would write an article for our favourite local newspaper. Having never written for the newspaper, we were up for the challenge and had fun with it. There were no promises made and we were told that there was no guarantee as to when we would be published. Imagine our surprise when we received the newspaper this week and spotted our article! It’s such a fun feeling to see it there in print and of course, we want to toot our horn about it. We really appreciated the opportunity to write for the newspaper and have nothing but good things to say about the experience and the wonderful people at Your Local Journal who so kindly guided us through the process. There were no deadlines set so we could have sat on the offer until we found the guts to do it but we decided to practice our favourite philosophy and “Just Do It!”. There’s never a better time than the present and what a satisfying experience for us to see the result in print…

We are in this week’s issues (there are two editions) of Your Local Journal which is a very fun paper to read. How do you view life?

We’ve always loved Louis Vuitton’s commercial on the journey of life. It has great photography/cinematography and some thought provoking words and questions. It’s a short clip that asks a simple question…does the person create the journey (of life), or does the journey create the person? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this, how you would answer this question. Please feel free to share and/or discuss your thoughts below.

Oh we had fun!

How fortunate we were, on the evening of the exhibit this past December, to have Stephanie Avakian professionally photographing the event for us. Stephanie is an amazing photographer with a fantastic personality and a huge heart who just loves to sneak up on you with her camera and capture you when you least expect it. Let me put it this way…if you manage to get a good picture of me, you’re brilliant. Well, Stephanie can do just that and more… And she has so generously shared her work with us so you can all enjoy more moments from our evening and see for yourselves just how much fun we had if you were unable to attend.

First there was the setup and it had to be just right, so a little polishing here and there, and some arranging there and here. The lighting had to be this way and the easels went that way. It’s always fun to put the whole show together and we love the surprise of the prints as they come in and we see them for the first time. Everyone gets involved in the final preparations as the countdown begins to the start of the show!

Once it’s all set, it’s time to open up the show and greet everyone with a glass of wine and a celebration! The event is always filled with smiles and fabulous people and we just love the joy that fills the place and makes it such a successful event. Friends and family are in attendance along with past and current participants as well as all kinds of friendly and smiling new faces. We have to admit that we get so excited that we just want to get up and dance. We never want the evening to end!! We have to thank everyone for that because you just fill the room with joy, inspiration and fun!

Now, I have no idea what I’m doing here but as you can see, not only was I having fun but I’m clearly beaming with pride!! Good catch Steph! As it turns out, it was a busy week for Sonya and I as we also attended another very successful exhibit and vernissage. Diane Skinner, a brilliant landscape, wildlife and abstract photographer held an exhibit the very same week along with three other photographers. We had a great time as you can see and Stephanie caught us having fun once again.

(BTW, Stephanie Avakian is a professional photographer who runs her own studio. She’s currently making some snazzy changes to her website so we’re waiting until she’s ready before posting it. In the meanwhile though, if you want to find her, make a comment here and hail her down…she’ll get right back to you!)

We’d like to thank everyone who attended the exhibit and all the photographers who participated in the exhibit. You helped us make it another great success and we’re looking forward to the next one! We’re looking forward to another very exciting and stimulating year and we’re anxious to see you all again as we get ready to start the Winter season next week!

They did it again!

A huge congratulations to all the participants of the Fall 2011 Shoot Share & Discover Adventure!!! Last night they put on what turned out to be a beautifully successful and most inspiring exhibit of their work. We just love the exhibit events because they always makes us feel really good… It starts with the setup which is simply a joy to watch and participate in as moment by moment the event begins to unfold and take shape. As the participants arrive, prints in hand, and begin to set up the exhibit, Sonya and I are always anxious to see which pictures they chose to exhibit and to see the final display of presentation-ready work. It’s also fun to listen to all the participants as they set up in another room while we prepare the rest of the event. It’s as if there were a bunch of elves, hard at work, creating… There are moments of complete silence, moments of commotion as all the easels get set up and placed, moments of thought and concentration as they decide where to place their frames and always the look of surprise when Sonya checks in on them and reminds them that they can do what they want but that I will come and put the final word in (I do have to exert my little bit of “control” on the situation at some point in the adventure…and it happens the night of the exhibit). Everyone works so hard throughout the workshops and we insist at the end on making it a professional show for them, after all, they deserve it!

It’s a very exciting evening and it is always such a good feeling to see so many wonderful people coming to support everyone and so many smiling faces. It’s just really fun! So we want to thank everyone for working so hard, for fully jumping in with both feet and all of your hearts, for taking on the challenges, for raising the bar yet once again and keeping us on our toes, for inspiring us over and over again and for your beautiful, honest and most uplifting participation!! We loved every minute of it and we are so proud of all of you! We also want to thank everyone who attended and all of you who sent us your heartfelt wishes for the evening. Because of all of you, we ended the season with as much joy as we started it and once again, we can’t wait until next season now!!

We’ve just announced our Winter and Spring 2012 session workshops and we’re in the Christmas spirit. It’s a great time to get your Christmas shopping done…we’re paying the taxes on all the Winter 2012 season workshops until midnight on December 15th!!

We have an exciting season prepared for you and we’re looking forward to spending the winter with you. We love to have fun and make the winter season much more exciting. If you just got yourself a new camera or you’re itching to unleash your creative juices and make new and inspiring friends, come out and join us. All ages and levels are welcome. We believe that absolutely everyone is creative and you will be amazed at what you can do!
